THE
RED CROSS SOCIETY
Red Cross, we thank you for all you do
Everyday, you are helping us through,
Delicious hot tea, we can frequently brew
Coffee and cocoa, we thought we'd not get
Remember the joy of that first cigarette.
Oh! For some chocolate was once the cry
Seems that the Red Cross has heard the great sigh,
Sincerely we thank them for all that they do.
Sometimes we're browned off, or feel rather
blue,
Or even be feeling quite sad.
Come what mood may, there's one thing that true
The Red Cross will always be glad.
Every parcel the luck we have to receive
Tom, Dick or Harry, it's board to relieve,
You'll joining in with me, and say that its true
Red Cross, we thank you for all that you do.
Though your road be hard and lonely
As you battle with the foe
And your tasks seem overwhelming
Yet within your heart you know
There are hearts that love your welfare
Like a jewel set in life
There are lives forever praying
For your safety through the strife.
There are letters loved ones write you
Through a screen of shinning tears
But those words of homely tidings
Give no sign of doubts or fears
Though many hands and lives may tremble
Ere they reach the loving end
Of their messages so sacred
Which their souls to your should send.
Do, whenever you are weary
And so often you must be
Think of those who dearly love you
Whose prayers guards your destiny
Think of all the million wishes
Speeding to you day and night
Think of those while you are fighting
For the time when things come right.
Maybe you are ill or wounded
Or in some prison camp.
When the cold seeps through your body
And disface your courage seeks to damp
Then just remember this my friend
God made you for a purpose
And no matter what that purpose be
She'll be with you to its end.
Have you ever wondered what they think
In Canada, day by day
Have you ever wondered if they say a prayer
For you while your away.
Let me re-assure you lads
They give us all a thought
For those who have not yet returned
Who went away and fought.
So you ever give a thought to them
Amidst their strife and cares
Do you also think to say each night
Just one or two small prayers
You'll find that life goes better lads
If you give a thought to them who wait
So patiently for you.
